Rise in Road, Rail Cargo Transportation

A total of 1.18 million trucks transported 18.29 tons of goods across the country during Norouz (Iranian New Year) holidays from March 15 to April 4, showing a 63.2% and 63.4% growth in the number of trucks and the volume of goods respectively compared with the similar period of last year, says Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
“Rail transport of goods over the same period stood at 2.96 million tons or 1.96 billion tons/kilometer, registering a year-on-year rise of 21.6% and 4.2% respectively,” Eslami was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The minister noted that all health protocols to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 were observed by the commuting trucks and cargo trains during the period under review.
