Three ocean liners weighing more than 40,000 tons docked simultaneously at Shahid Bahonar Port in the southern province of Hormozgan, according to the manager of Shahid Bahonar and East Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Bureau.
“This is the first time after 12 years that three heavyweight ocean liners have berthed at Shahid Bahonar at the same time with the purpose of exporting Iranian goods,” Hamid Reza Mohammad-Hosseini Takhti was quoted as saying by IRNA on Saturday.
These vessels will carry commodities, including steel, foodstuff, minerals and construction materials, to export destinations.
Shahid Bahonar is one of the most active ports in southern Iran in both passenger and freight transportation. The port enjoys a strategic position due to its proximity to the Persian Gulf littoral states and the Iranian islands of Qeshm and Kish.
