Members of the Iranian parliament have approved a 25% increase in the rate of salaries of government employees as per the budget bill of the upcoming Iranian year (March 2021-22).
However, according to Mojgan Khanlou, an official with Plan and Budget Organization, the 25% pay hike won’t apply to public workers who receive upwards of 100 million rials ($403) per month; they will only receive a fixed pay rise of 25 million rials ($100).
“Civil servants and pensioners’ minimum wage next year is set at 35 million rials ($141),” ISNA quoted Khanlou as saying.
Although pay raise is mandated to match the inflation rate, which is currently upwards of 30%, the officials have never accepted that as a benchmark.
Latest data released by the Statistical Center of Iran show the average goods and services Consumer Price Index in the 12-month period ending Feb. 18, which marks the end of the 11th month of the current Iranian year, increased by 34.2% compared with the corresponding period of last year.
