Due to the spread of the new strain of the coronavirus in Iraq, passengers are banned from using five border crossings to the neighboring country over the past few days, the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration announced.
Rouhollah Latifi added that these include Tamarchin and Kileh in West Azarbaijan Province and Chazzabeh and Shalamcheh in the southern Khuzestan Province, IRNA reported.
Mehran border crossing was the fifth border checkpoint closed to passengers commute as of Feb. 23.
The measure has been taken with the aim of protecting citizens from contracting the new mutation of Covid-19, which is said to be 70% more transmissible.
