The growth in overall Consumer Price Index in the 10th month of the current fiscal year (Dec. 21, 2020-Jan. 19) was the lowest (0.7%) in Mazandaran and Qom provinces when compared with the month before.
This comes as, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Zanjan Province posted the highest month-on-month inflation of 3.3% last month.
The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 285.7 in the Iranian month under review, indicating a 1.8% rise compared with the previous month.
Kurdestan Province’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 55.8% during the month ending Jan. 19 compared with the similar month of the previous year, the highest among all provinces. The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Qom with 41.5%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces.
The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 46.2% in the same month.
The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Jan. 19 increased by 32.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation with 36.5% while Markazi Province posted the lowest of 28.8%.
Urban Households
The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 282.9 during the month under review, indicating a 1.9% rise compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (3.3%) in Zanjan while provinces of Golestan, Qom and Mazandaran recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 0.7% compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 45.5% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Kurdestan’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 55.4% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Qom with 41.5% YOY.
The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 increased by 32.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in urban areas of Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation (36.2%) while those of West Azarbaijan and Markazi witnessed the lowest annual inflation (28.6%) among all Iranian provinces.
Rural Households
The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 301.3 in the month under review, which indicates a 1.7% increase compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Zanjan with 3.3%. This is while rural households living in Gilan and Markazi provinces saw a 0.5% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 49.8% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of Hamedan’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 61% during the ninth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Sistan-Baluchestan with 40.7% compared with other provincial rural areas.
The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 32.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
Yazd and Bushehr registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (37.8%) while Khuzestan posted the lowest annual inflation (27.9%).
Tehran Province
The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Jan. 19 for Tehran Province, wherein lies the capital city, increased by 33.7% compared with the corresponding period of last year.
SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on Dec. 20, at 32.4%.
The consumer inflation for the month under review (Dec. 21, 2020-Jan. 19) registered an increase of 43% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year. The year-on-year inflation of the month ending Dec. 20 was 41.4%.
The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 287.9 last month, indicating a 2.4% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 1.1% for the preceding month
SCI put urban and rural areas of Tehran Province 12-month inflation for the month under review at 33.8% and 32.8%, respectively.
CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 43.1% for urban areas and 41.8% for rural areas in the month ending Jan. 19.
The overall CPI reached 287.9 for urban households and 288.9 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 2.4% and 1.6% for urban and rural areas, respectively.
