Petrochemical companies have increased the prices of raw materials used in producing polypropylene, because of which the product’s price is bound to rise, says Ahmad Abolhassani, the head of Printing House Owners’ Union.
Up until last month, a kilogram of polypropylene was sold for 445,000 rials ($1.7) but is currently being sold at 537,000 rials ($2.3) despite the appreciation of local currency, he added.
“Polypropylene prices have increased by 20% since Dec. 19, but are expected to rise further in the coming weeks,” Abolhassani was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
Polypropylene is a rigid and crystalline thermoplastic used widely in everyday objects like packaging of food products like crisps, cheese and pulses.
