A total of 739,200 tons of sheet glass were produced in Iran during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Nov. 20), registering a 3.9% decline compared with the similar period of last year, figures released by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade show.
In the last fiscal year (March 2019-20), the report adds, more than 1.63 million tons of sheet glass were produced and the figure s estimated to increase by 20-25% by the yearend (March 20, 2021).
Iran’s exports of the product reached $57.4 million last year.
The Industries Ministry puts Iran’s sheet glass production capacity at 1.7 million per year with the provinces of Qazvin, Yazd and Markazi having the biggest share in a descending order.
Sheet glass, plate glass or flat glass is a type of glass, initially produced in plane form, commonly used for windows, glass doors, transparent walls and windscreens. Flat glass stands in contrast to container glass (used for bottles, jars, cups) and glass fiber (used for thermal insulation, fiberglass composites and optical communication).
