SCI Survey Shows 8.1 Percent Gap in Provincial Average Annual Inflation

Hormozgan registered the highest annual inflation with 35.3% while West Azarbaijan posted the lowest of 27.2%

The Statistical Center of Iran’s latest report on consumer price changes in 31 provinces shows there is an 8.1% gap between the highest and lowest inflation rates.

The average goods and services Consumer Price Index in Iran for the 12-month period ending Dec. 20, which marks the end of the ninth Iranian month, increased by 30.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation with 35.3% while West Azarbaijan posted the lowest of 27.2%. 

The growth in overall Consumer Price Index in the ninth month of the current Iranian year (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) was the lowest (1%) in Khuzestan Province when compared with the month before.

This comes as, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, West Azarbaijan Province posted the highest month-on-month inflation of 4.5% last month. 

The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 280.6 in the same month, indicating a 2% rise compared with the previous month.  

Kurdestan Province’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 54.2% during the month ending Dec. 20 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces. 

The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for Qom with 41.2%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 44.8% in the same month. 

 

 

Urban Households 

The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 277.7 during the ninth month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 1.9% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (4.9%) for West Azarbaijan while the provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan, Khuzestan and Gilan recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 1% compared with other provinces. 

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 44.2% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Kurdestan’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 53.6% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for Qom with 41.2% YOY.

The average CPI in urban areas for the 12-month period ending Dec. 20 increased by 30.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in urban areas of Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation (35%) while those of West Azarbaijan witnessed the lowest annual inflation (26.9%) among all Iranian provinces. 

 

 

Rural Households

The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 296.3 in the month under review, which indicates a 2.7% increase compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Khorasan Razavi with 4.3%. This is while rural households in Semnan Province saw a 0.4% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces. 

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 48% for rural areas in the same month. CPI of Hamedan’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 58.1% during the ninth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Sistan-Baluchestan with 39.5% compared with other provincial rural areas. 

The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period increased by 30.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan registered the highest annual inflation in rural areas (35.9%) while Khuzestan posted the lowest annual inflation (25.7%).

 

 

Tehran Province Performance

The average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Dec. 20 for Tehran Province wherein lies the capital city increased by 32.4% compared with the corresponding period of last year.

SCI had put Tehran’s average annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month that ended on Nov. 20 at 31.3%. 

The consumer inflation for the month under review (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) registered an increase of 41.4% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year. The year-on-year inflation of the month ending Nov. 20 was 43.3%. 

The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) of Tehran Province stood at 281.3 last month, indicating a 1.1% rise compared with the month before. Month-on-month consumer inflation was 3.2% for the preceding month 

SCI put 12-month inflation for urban and rural areas of Tehran Province at 32.5% and 31.7%, respectively. 

CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 41.4% for urban areas and 41% for rural areas in the month ending Dec. 20. 

The overall CPI reached 281.2 for urban households and 284.5 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 1.1% and 2.1% for urban and rural areas, respectively.
