A total of 4.49 million tons of agricultural products were produced in the central Isfahan Province in the last Iranian year (March 2019-20), registering a 40.15% growth compared with the fiscal 2013-14 output, when President Hassan Rouhani first took office.
“We owe this increase in the province’s agro production to proper and thorough planning, the use of modern methods and a rise in agro mechanization, officials’ correct measures in the field, farmers’ unrelenting efforts and cooperation between provincial officials and Isfahan’s farmers,” the head of Isfahan Agricultural Organization, Mehrdad Moradmand, was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Isfahan has 563,000 hectares of arable land, which account for 3.5% of Iran’s total land suitable for agricultural production.
Farms and orchards account for close to 486,000 hectares and 80,000 hectares of Isfahan’s agricultural fields respectively.
Isfahan is a climatically diverse province where dates, pomegranate and pistachio are cultivated in dry and semi-dry regions, seeded and stone fruits are grown in mild regions and nuts such as almond and walnut are produced in colder and mountainous regions.
Isfahan ranks first in the country in terms of annual milk production (1.443 tons), turkey meat (10,000 tons) and ornamental fish (67.5 million), second in chicken (close to 200,000 tons), eggs (105,000 tons), ostrich meat (around 1,000 tons) and onion (390,000 tons); third in greenhouse products (302,000 tons), potato (528,000 tons), honey (1,300 tons) and mushrooms (13,000 tons); and fourth in apple (277,000 tons) and red meat (70,000 tons).
