The government has allocated 2 trillion rials ($8.5 million) for the completion of Qazvin-Zanjan double-tracking rail project, the head of Plan and Budget Organization said.
“When completed, the railroad will help increase the capacity of freight transportation along the country’s East-West transportation corridor by around 7 million tons and reduce travel time via rail between Qazvin and Zanjan provinces by close to 90 minutes,” Mohammad Baqer Nobakht was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
The official noted that the project will come on stream by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021).
Qazvin-Zanjan double-tracking rail project, which has made 65% progress up until now, kicked off in the fiscal 2004-5, came to a halt after a while and resumed again with new investment.
A total of 800 billion rials ($3.4 million) have been invested into the project.
