Ban on Perfume Imports

Imports constitute 90% of the perfume market in Iran, but since the government has banned its imports, illegal inflows of perfumes, just like other cosmetic products, will increase even more, says the deputy head of the Iranian Association of Cosmetics, Toiletries and Perfumery Importers.
“Some 200 containers of cosmetic and beauty products have piled up at customs terminals since May 2019, when the ban on imports of more than 80% of cosmetics and toiletries, except perfumes, took effect. This comes as importers had already carried out order registration process and paid for the products,” Mohammad Reza Bahiraei added. 
Bahiraei put the value of each of these containers at $500,000 and said “half the shelf-life of these imports has elapsed and these products are in principle the country’s foreign currency reserves that are being squandered”.
