2nd Track of Karaj-Qazvin Railroad Inaugurated

The second track of Karaj-Qazvin Railroad was inaugurated by President Hassan Rouhani on June 18 via videoconferencing. 
“The 104-kilometer-long railroad project, launched in early 2015 with an investment of 5,740 billion rials ($31.53), has created 165 direct and indirect jobs,” Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Saeed Rasouli was quoted as saying by IRNA. 
“The new railroad includes seven stations–Karaj, Kordan, Hashtgerd, Abyek, Ziyaran, Kavandaj and Qazvin–and 35 junctions.t allows passenger trains to travel 30% faster [at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour] and reduces fuel consumption by 12.7 million liters worth 2,530 billion rials [$13.9 million],” he added. 
Rasouli noted that with the new railroad track in place, passenger transportation capacity will reach 257 million and freight transportation capacity will hit 196 million tons annually.
