The Statistical Center of Iran has published an infographic based on the International Classification of Activities for Time Use Statistics (ICATUS 2016), illustrating a classification of all activities Iranians spent time on during the day over the third quarter of last Iranian year (Sept. 23-Dec. 21, 2019).
The infographic’s purpose is to serve as a standard framework for time-use statistics based on activities grouped in a meaningful way.
It shows an Iranian individual living in urban areas spent two hours and 49 minutes on employment and related activities; four minutes on goods production for own use; two hours and 41 minutes on unpaid domestic services for household and family members; 33 minutes on unpaid caregiving services for household and family members; two minutes on unpaid volunteer, trainee and other unpaid work; 43 minutes on learning; one hour and 46 minutes on socializing and communication, community participation and religious practice; four hours and six minutes on culture, leisure, mass-media and sports practices; and 11 hours and 15 minutes on self-care and maintenance.
ICATUS provides a framework with standardized concepts and definitions for the systematic dissemination of internationally comparable time use statistics, regardless of the type of instruments used for data collection.
It can be further used to guide the collection of time use data, or be adapted into countries’ classifications reflecting national context and needs.
