A total of 8.64 million tons of commodities were loaded and unloaded in a southern port during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 20-May 20), according to the director general of the port.
“More than 4.18 tons of the total throughput pertained to non-oil goods and the remaining 4.46 million were oil products,” Allahmorad Afifipour was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
The official said more than 2.24 million tons of non-oil commodities were exported and 1.1 million tons were imported over the two-month period.
Transshipment and transit of these goods amounted to 547,429 tons and 219,473 tons respectively.
“Exports of oil products from this southern port stood at more than 1.79 tons, which show a 32.6% rise compared with the similar period of last year. Moreover, 2.65 million tons of oil products were cabotaged and 13,347 tons were transited over the same period,” he said.
Afifipour noted that a total of 583 vessels entered the port during the two months under review, 468 of which weighed over 1,000 tons.
Located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province, Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran’s biggest container port.
Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee. The port complex also accounts for over 85% of all container throughput in the country.
