Revenues from departure tax, which is a subcategory of tax on goods and services of indirect taxes, stood at 11,500 billion rials ($67.25 million) in the fiscal 2019-20.
The figure shows a 17.35% growth compared with the year before, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Total revenues gained from tax on goods and services in the last fiscal year stood at 589,902 billion rials ($3.44 billion).
Last year’s departure tax, which the government charges outbound tourists upon departure, was set at 2.2 million rials ($12.86) for first-time travelers, 3.3 million rials ($19.29) for second-time travelers and 4.4 million rials ($25.73) for travelers making a third or more trips.
Notably, last year, the departure tax increased almost threefold compared to the year before.
As per the budget bill of March 2020-21, the Iranian government has set current year’s departure tax at 2.64 million rials ($15.43) for travelers who make their first overseas trip of the year, 3.96 million rials ($23.15) for their second trip and 5.28 million rials (30.87) for the third or more trips.
Departure tax imposed on travelers to Saudi Arabia for hajj pilgrimage is set at 1.32 million rials ($7.71).
