Gov’t to Complete Construction of 8 Hospitals by June 2021

The government will complete the construction of eight hospitals by the end of President Hassan Rouhani’s tenure in June 2021, which will add 1,286 beds to the number of Iranian hospital beds, a deputy roads minister said.

“With the completion of these eight hospitals, the government of President Hassan Rouhani will have built a total of 74 hospitals,” Mohammad Jafar Alizadeh was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban development.

The official noted that the eight hospitals under construction are located in the cities of Torbat-e Heydarieh in Khorasan Razavi Province, Jahrom in Fars Province, Khomein in Markazi Province, Mehdishahr in Semnan Province, Tuyserkan in Hamedan Province, Gachsaran in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province, Langaroud in Gilan province and Takab in West Azarbaijan Province.

A hospital in the city of Lamerd, Fars Province, was inaugurated on April 22.

According to Alizadeh, the establishment of the 124-bed hospital was entirely funded by philanthropists.

Health Minister Saeed Namaki announced last year that Iran was in talks with China for financing the construction of a 500-bed hospital in the suburbs of the northeastern city of Mashhad.

“We have already used Chinese financing in building hospitals with over 500 beds across the country. We have a similar project in Mashhad, but we haven’t yet reached an agreement [with the Chinese side]. If we reach an agreement, we will disclose the details to the public,” he said.

“We are currently in talks with the Chinese side and private companies about ways of using their assistance in the form of finance for the development of our health infrastructures,” he added.
