Iran exported 6,500 tons of eggs during the two months to May 20, the president of Tehran's Egg-Laying Chicken Producers Union said.
Nasser Nabipour added that 40,000 tons of eggs were exported from Iran during the last fiscal year that ended on March 19.
Egg exports are projected to reach 60,000 tons by the end of the current fiscal year (March 2021), he was quoted as saying by Young Journalists Club.
Iran produces 90,000 tons of eggs per month while per capita egg consumption in the country stands at 12 kilograms per year, which means a production surplus of at least 200,000 tons.
Reza Torkashvand, the head of Producers of Egg-Laying Hens Union, said the Agriculture Ministry's plan for the current year (March 2020-21) is to increase egg production by 4% compared to last year.
