Pharmaceutical Cargo Imported From France via Turkish Border

A batch of pharmaceuticals, including antiserum, orthopedic supplies and lab kits, worth €5.17 million entered Iran via West Azarbaijan Province’s Sari Su border market near Maku in recent days on the Turkish frontier, says Sadeq Namdar, the managing director of Bazargan Customs Office.

After failing to pass through Bazargan border, two trucks carrying 9,875 kilograms of pharmaceuticals from France entered the country via Iran-Turkey border market Sari Su and were headed to Tehran’s Payam Customs Office and Imam Khomeini International Airport's Free Trade Zone.

The first shipment of pharmaceuticals, including 26 tons of pharmaceutical raw materials, was imported 35 days ago from Germany through the same border crossing, IRNA quoted him as saying on Sunday.

All border crossings in West Azarbaijan Province are open to trade with neighboring countries, a local customs official said recently.

Tohid Azarbod added that amid the coronavirus outbreak, customs activities have been shifted from a number of closed border crossings to the northwestern province, particularly Tamarchin and Razi.

West Azarbaijan Province borders Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Bazargan border crossing, located in northwest Iran, has recently reopened following negotiations between Iranian and Turkish authorities. The capital city of Bazargan District, in Maku County, West Azarbaijan Province, is the most important Iranian land border for importing and exporting from and to Turkey.

According to Spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Rouhollah Latifi, 60 Iranian trucks per day have been allowed to transfer export goods to Turkey from Iran as per new agreements from May 5, IRNA reported.
