Parliamentarians on Tuesday approved Clause 65 of the Value Added Tax Bill that includes setting penalties for offences committed by tax inspectors.
According to the clause, tax inspectors who intentionally underestimate or overestimate taxpayers’ income will be subject to compensation payments as well as three months to five years of administrative leave without pay.
Repeat offenders will face up to one to four years of administrative leave without pay and might face imprisonment from six months to two years based on the court’s decision, IRNA reported.
