Fiscal 2019-20 Exports From Hormozgan at $31.5b

A total of 46 million tons of goods worth $31.5 billion were exported from Hormozgan Province’s Customs Department in the last Iranian year (March 2019-20) to register a 1% and 91% rise in tonnage and value respectively compared with the previous year.
According to customs official, Abolfazl Akbarpour, non-oil products accounted for around 37 million tons worth more than $22.7 billion of the total exports, which indicate a 7% and 121% increase in weight and value respectively. 
Iron ore and its concentrate, ethylene polymer, semi-finished steel, coke, bitumen and mineral and chemical fertilizers had the lion’s share of exports, Fars News Agency reported.
“China, the UAE, Thailand, India, Oman and Ghana were the main export destinations,” he said.
Akbarpour noted that 8 million tons of goods worth $16.69 billion were imported into the southern province during the same period.
The tonnage and value of imports showed no significant change year-on-year.
The imports mainly included rice, rubber, meat and industrial machinery.
China, Germany, India, Italy and the UAE were the main exporters.
Located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province borders the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
It is home to Iran's biggest commercial port, Shahid Rajaee.
More than 68.92 million tons of commodities were loaded and unloaded in this port last year, registering a 1.74% growth compared with the year before.
Non-oil goods accounted for 43.32 million tons and oil products for over 25.59 million tons of the total, showing a 0.47% decline and 5.33% growth respectively year-on-year.
Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee. The port complex also accounts for over 85% of all container throughput in the country.
According to Mohammad Reza Rezaei-Kouchi, the head of Majlis Development Commission, Shahid Rajaee Port has a 6% share in the region’s total container throughput per annum, ILNA reported.
