IRIR Launches Direct Ship-to-Train Freight Transfer

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways launched the direct transfer of containers from ship to train for the first time in 15 years on April 3 in cooperation with Ports and Maritime Organization and Government Trading Corporation of Iran, according to Saeed Rasouli, the managing director of IRIR.
The bulk carrier Summit Success unloaded its 70,000 tons of cargo containers directly onto a freight train at Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Hormozgan Province on Friday, IRNA reported.
“Containers carrying grains won’t be unloaded at the port and will only be opened at silos of destination cities, namely Kerman, Yazd, Isfahan, Tehran and Mashhad. This cargo shipping move would result in higher transport efficiency, preserve the quality of grain, shorten shipping time, reduce fuel consumption and decrease road accidents,” he said.
