    Iron Ore Pellet Output Near 38m Tons in 11 Months

    Latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show iron ore pellet output in Iran hit 37.92 million tons during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2019-Feb. 19), down 2% YOY.

    Golgohar was the largest producer with 11.13 million tons (up 1% YOY), followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 6.25 million tons (down 10% YOY), Khouzestan Steel Company with 5.4 million (down 7% YOY), MIDHCO with 5.06 million tons (up 11% YOY), Chadormalu with 3.3 million tons (up 2% YOY), Opal Parsian Sangan with 2.88 million tons (down 15% YOY), Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company with 2.07 million tons (down 20% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 1.39 million tons (up 103% YOY) and Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company with 396,638 tons (up 28% YOY).

    Pellet production witnessed a 1% increase YOY during the 11th month to 3.55 million tons.

    IMIDRO's latest report on under-construction iron ore pellet production units indicates Iran’s iron ore pellet production capacity will increase by 25.92 million tons by the time all these units become operational in the fiscal 2023-24.

    The report, giving details on the units and their progress as of Nov. 21, 2019, shows Ardakan DRI production unit located in Yazd will have a production capacity of 0.6 million tons/year upon completion. The development of the unit has made 85% progress and it is expected to become operational by the end of the current fiscal year (March 19).

    Maad Koush Company, located in Bandar Abbas, capital of Hormozgan Province, with an operational capacity of 2.5 million tons/year, has made 98% progress so far and it is also expected to come on stream by March 19.

    Ghaem Omid Noor Company, located in Roshtkhar, Khorasan Razavi Province, will have a capacity of 0.6 million tons/year and has made 96% progress. This project is also expected to be launched by the fiscal yearend.

    The first phase of Gohar Zamin unit in Sirjan, Kerman Province, will create 5 million tons/year of production capacity. It has made 73% progress and is expected to be inaugurated next year (March 2020-21).

    Located in Bafq, Yazd Province, Sechahun Pellet Plant will have a 5-million-ton/year of production capacity upon completion. The unit’s development progress is currently at 89% and it is expected to become operational next year.

    Pasargad Steel Complex has made 71% progress. It will add 2.5 million tons/year to the country’s iron ore pellet production capacity. Located in Shiraz, capital of Fars Province, the project is due to be launched next year.

    Roshtkhar Steel Complex, located in Khorasan Razavi Province, is expected to become operational in the fiscal 2022-23. With a 31.1% progress, its production capacity will reach 1.2 million tons/per year.

    Kaveh Pars Company, located in Khaf, Khorasan Razavi Province, has made 11.2% progress. It will have 2.6 million tons/year of production capacity and will come on stream in the fiscal 2023-24.

    Also coming on stream during the fiscal 2023-24, Baft Pellet Plant, located in Baft, Kerman Province, has made 15% progress and will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year when completed.

    The development project of Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company in Kurdestan Province will add 0.92 million tons to the total production capacity of the country. It has made 6% progress and will be inaugurated in the fiscal 2023-24.
