Tehran City Council has approved an 11% rise in taxi fares effective until the end of the Iranian year (March 19).
According to Mohsen Hashemi, the council chairman, the measure has been taken to compensate for the rise in gasoline prices this year, ISNA reported.
Earlier, the council gave the green light to a 25% increase in metro, bus, taxi and minibus fares as per Tehran Municipality’s next year’s budget.
Mohammad Alikhani, a city councilor, said as per the city’s decision, intra-urban single-ride tickets now priced at 12,000 rials (7.7 cents) will increase by 3,000 rials (1.9 cents) to 15,000 rials (9.7 cents) next year.
The fares of suburban single-ride subway tickets will be raised by 2,000 rials (1.2 cents) to 17,000 rials (11 cents), and that of Tehran-Hashtgerd will be sold at 50,000 rials (32 cents).
“Prices of subway ticket to Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport will remain unchanged at 90,000 rials (58.4 cents),” he was quoted as saying by Tasnim News Agency.
