The southern province of Bushehr is planning to export 12,000 metric tons of dates, Abdorosoum Behnamrad, an official in the ministry of agricultural Jihad told Mehr news agency in Bushehr on Friday. He added that there are currently 20 packaging units active in the province. The administration is planning to support the export of dates, Mahmud Hojjati, the minister of agricultural Jihad said earlier this month. About one million tons of dates are farmed annually in Iran, 200 thousand tons of which are exported, he said. In the process of increasing the share of Iranian dates in targeted markets, it would be helpful to modernize packaging and focus on marketing as well as the customers’ needs, Hojjati added. Iran is among the largest producers and exporters of date in the world.
