The First National Summit and Exhibition of Iran Steel opened at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Monday.
Organized by Iranian Steel Producers Association, the event is focused on localization, technology development and increasing provision capabilities.
The four-day event, which will conclude on Thursday, is said to be the biggest domestic gathering of producers, providers, traders and specialists of Iranian steel industry, the news service of ISPA at Chilanonline.com reported.
Major Iranian steel producers, including Mobarakeh Steel Co., Esfahan Steel Co., Khorasan Steel Co., Khuzestan Steel Co., Kaveh Pars Holding, MIDHCO and Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex, are participating in the event.
A workshop for introducing the 'PERED' technology is scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the conference on Wednesday, with the aim of analyzing advantages of the Iranian technology. It will also review the latest status of provincial projects under construction using PERED, according to Iranian Mines and Mining, Industries, Development and Renovation Organization.
PERED, or Persian Reduction, was invented and patented by Mines and Metals Engineering GmbH, an Iranian engineering company registered in Germany. The technology helps optimize energy and raw materials, and reduce production costs with the added advantage of being more environment-friendly compared to other direct reduction methods.
In PERED, the reduction process is more efficient, employs improved cooling methods and cuts on pollutant gas emissions. With less heat, more homogeneous gas reduction, more controllable pellet feed and use of centrifugal compressors, PERED requires less water, electricity and gas to operate, which lower operational and maintenance costs.
According to MME’s website, PERED can also produce cold- and hot-rolled direct-reduced iron, hot briquetted iron and combinations of all three.
