IKCO Expands Deals via IME

Some 2,100 Peugeot 207s and Tara cars manufactured/assembled by Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) will be offered at the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME) today (Dec 10).

The latest deal includes 1,600 Peugeot 207s and 500 Tara, IBENA reported.

Of the total 300 cars are automatic gear Peugeot 207s with panoramic roof and 4 billion rials ($11,038) as the base price, 300 others are automatic gear Peugeots with the base price of 3.74 billion rials ($10,232), 1,000 manual gear Peugeots with 2.91 billion rials ($,7,964) base price, 250 automatic Tara sedans at 3.76 billion rials ($10,273) and 250 manual gear Tara models at 3.09 billion rials ($8,456).

To the base prices will be added ‘other expenses’.

The IME said the vehicles will be delivered in three months and those interested should pay 50% of the price of the car upfront.

Also, each vehicle can be registered with one Iranian ID number. Those aged 18 or over who could not buy vehicles in previous offers can register this time round.

Buyers should log into IKCO internet sales website at esale.ikco.ir to create a personal profile, choose an authorized dealership and insurance company and deposit the money.

Market Performance

Auto sale via the exchange amounted to 4,080 vehicles during the eight months worth 33.61 trillion rials ($64 million).

Peugeot 207s accounted for nearly a quarter of the new vehicles.  During the period 742 Fidelity brands manufactured/assembled by Bahman Motor were sold, followed by 731 Haima S7s of Iran Khodro and 594 Dignity brands by Bahman Motor.

Bahman Motors also sold 456 Kara pickups, a popular vehicle in Iran originally produced by the Japanese auto giant Mazda.

Data shows that 200 Lamari Eamas of Arian Pars Motor, 69 KMC T8s by Kerman Motor, 68 JAC S5s by Kerman Motor and 64 Shahins of SAIPA were sold since the beginning of the year.

Heavy-duty vehicles, FAW and EM Power brands from China assembled by Bahman Motors and Siba Motor in Iran, were also welcomed by buyers. A total of 121 Empower puller trucks of Bahman Diesel and 35 FAW trucks by Siba Motor were sold.

Auto sale via the IME was temporarily suspended by the Industries Ministry in late May. It argued that the practice was incompatible with rules to regulate the auto market and added to price volatility.  In July the ministry backtracked and the High Council of Securities and Exchange agreed to resume the sale of selected brands.

Experts say offering affordable cars in the stock market, is a positive measure that paves the way for transparency in the market, cuts middlemen from the deals, reducing the detrimental effects of their interference in the market, reduces the pernicious impacts of government-imposed pricing on the automotive industry, and safeguards the rights and benefits of consumers, producers and shareholders alike.
