Currency, Stocks Extend Gains in Tehran

Currency rates rose in Iran’s market on Wednesday, extending concerns about fluctuations that began in early November. 

The US dollar fetched 127,000 rials, gaining more than 2,000 rials, or 2%, against the rial. This is the highest rate for the greenback since July 10, according to the Tehran Gold and Jewelry Union website.

The website reports on the currency prices quoted by the moneychangers affiliated to the Central Bank of Iran. 

One euro was sold for more than 141,000 rials and the UK pound sterling fetched 165,000 rials.

Outside the CBI realm and in the unofficial currency market, the USD was traded higher, climbing above the psychological level of 130,000 rials at some point and retreating later.     

Keeping pace with trends in the currency market, the main index of Tehran Stock Exchange TEDPIX gained 1,713.62 points, or 0.53%, on Wednesday to end trading at 322,528.0.

About 3.49 billion shares valued at 16.33 trillion rials ($128.6 billion) changed hands for the day.

Trading at TSE and over-the-counter Iran Fara Bourse starts on Saturday and ends Wednesday.

Niroumoharekeh Machine Tools Company was the biggest winner as its shares went up 5% to 7,287 rials per share.

Marvdasht Sugar Company incurred the biggest loss among all listed companies and went down 3.44% to 24,952 rials per share.

Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran contributed the most to the benchmark's fall, followed by Pars Petrochemical Company, Tabriz Oil Refining Company and Esfahan Oil Refining Company.

MAPNA Group gave the biggest boost to the benchmark index, followed by Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines Company, Omid Investment Management Group Company and Dr. Abidi Pharmaceutical Company.

The Price Index gained 459.03 points, or 0.53% to close at 86,390.6.

The First Market Index increased 1,144.24 points, or 0.50% to post 231,414.2. Second Market Index increased by 3,943.54 points, or 0.59% to reach 669,396.5.

Industry Index increased by 1,264.29 points or 0.44% to register 288,322.3. The Free Float Index was up 2,990.85 points to hit 380,432.73.

TSE 30 lost 5.13 points to settle at 13,542.9 and the TSE 50 ended 10.62 points higher to finish at 12,301.4.

 

 

IFX Up 1.93%

Iran Fara Bourse main index IFX gained 79.61 points or 1.93% to close Wednesday trade at 4,195.95.

About 1.04 billion securities valued at 7.74 trillion rials ($60.95 million) were traded at the over-the-counter exchange for the day.

Marun Petrochemical Company, Arfa Iron and Steel Company, Rahavard Tamin Pharmaceutical Company and General Mechanic Company had the most negative impact on IFX.

Goharzamin Iron Ore Company gave the biggest boost to IFX, followed by Hormozgan Steel Company, Zagros Petrochemical Company and Iran Office Machines Industries Company.
