In a fresh move to augment child safety on roads, a bill has been drafted by the Majlis that will make use of booster seats in cars mandatory.
Secretary-General of the High Council of Traffic Pouria Yazdi told ISNA that until the bill is approved by parliament and fundamental changes are introduced in automotive safety rules, using booster seats for kids is strongly recommended.
"To increase child safety, car seat makers should adjust their designing and products and equip vehicles with special seats for children," Yazdi said.
The bill has been proposed as an amendment to Traffic Offences Regulations.
The measure has been taken in light of disturbing reports on the rising number of children fatalities during road mishaps.
Data from the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization (the coroner’s office), shows that road accidents in the past calendar year that ended in March cut short the lives of over 16,000 people, 4.5% were kids under 10.
