The Taxi Union and the National Disaster Management Organization has drawn up a plan that calls on cabbies to come to the aid of state bodies in offering emergency services in case of natural disasters.
As per the plan, a mechanism will be created so that along with ambulances taxis can volunteer for transferring the injured to hospitals during emergencies, Asr-e Khodro news website reported.
Morteza Akbarpour a deputy with the NDMO said the taxi drivers will be trained for the task. “Their help can enhance emergency services during crisis… The organization will provide to volunteer taxi drivers as soon as the final agreements are signed between NDMO and the Taxi Union,” he added.
Iran’s Red Crescent Society and the Emergency Medical Services are to contribute to the implementation of the plan.
