A new automated traffic enforcement system has been set up on Karaj -Chalous Highway and was officially inaugurated by Traffic police chief, Mohammad Hussein Hamidi.
The system, which officially went into operation on Monday, is expected to reduce dangerous accidents and improve traffic flow, Tasnim news agency reported on Monday.
By incorporating new cameras, the system will register speeding and illegal overtaking, which are the most common violations behind head-on collisions.
Violators will be given negative driving points and receive a fine through mail, and depending on their driving records their vehicles may also be seized and impounded.
According to the police chief, the system which has, for now, been set up on one of the country's most dangerous roads, will also be used on other major thoroughfares and freeways in the near future.
