The increase in the price of cars has been set at maximum 8 million rials (about $285 at official exchange rate) per car, according to Reza Shiva, head of the Competition Council, Tasnim reported on Tuesday. The council which is the overseeing body in regards to pricing on all goods and items has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks for allowing carmakers to put up their new car prices. The body, which shouldn’t play a direct role, has been pushed into the limelight due to members of the government criticizing their practices and questioning their motives. Iran’s official car prices are set annually, and with this any changes to the agreed purchase prices causes consternation across the board.
