Opel has shocked its competitors this week by taking the wraps off the Adam Rocks S, a head of a world premier set for the International Motorshow next week.
It was October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show where Opel unveiled the hot Adam S and now time has come for its fairly more rugged sibling called Adam Rocks to benefit from the same S treatment. Described as being "anything but cute", the petite crossover adopts the same four-cylinder, 1.4-liter ECOTEC turbocharged gasoline engine producing 150 HP (110 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque.
It needs 8.5 seconds to conquer the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and will top out at 130 mph (210 km/h). The engine sends power to the wheels through a short-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox which enables the Adam Rocks S to get from 50 mph (80 km/h) to 75 mph (120 km/h) in fifth gear in 7.9 seconds.
Opel says its hot mini-crossover will consume just 5.9 liters / 100 km with CO2 emissions standing at 139 g/km. Compared to the regular Adam Rocks, the S version sits 15mm lower and benefits from an up rated braking system and the possibility of turning off ESP. It comes as standard with an electrically-operated canvas roof available in 5 hues and can be had with one of the 11 body paints available.
Opel's absence in the Iranian market in recent years has been apparent due sanctions on doing business with Iran. However in recent months, Opel's have been appearing in Iranian showrooms around the capital Tehran. The Opel Adam is one of the cars which has a had a tempered entry to the market in small numbers. It is unlikely that the Adam Rocks S will appear in Iran anytime before later 2015.
