Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization is to hold the training workshop on restoration and reinforcement of historic buildings in Iran from October 20 to 21, ILNA reported.

The workshop will be conducted by experts from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Scientific Committee on Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ISCARSAH) which is founded by ICOMOS. The workshop is organized by ICHHTO’s Office for Historical Buildings, Fabrics and Sites.

According to the director of the office Seyyed Hadi Ahmadi, “The international workshop is aimed at raising the scientific knowhow of conservation experts in the country.”

ISCARSAH was founded in 1996 as a forum and network of engineers involved in the restoration and care of historical structures. It will share its experience and knowledge with Iranian experts during the 2-day workshop.

Members of the ISCARSAH are internationally renowned engineers, scientists, architects, specialists, and educators. “They will teach ways to restore historical masonry with minimum errors,” Ahmadi said.

There have been several successful restoration operations in Iran. Keys to the success will be shared with others in the workshop. There will also be Q&A sessions. Field trips to selected monuments possibly in need of restoration are on the itinerary of the workshop. During the visits, specialists will explain the best restoration methods for the monuments with regard to their structure and present conditions.

The workshop will be held at the ICHHTO main office located at the intersection of Azadi Avenue and Yadegar-Emam Highway.
