A book about the epitaphs at Takht-e Foulad historical cemetery in Isfahan will soon be released by the Center of Isfahan Studies and the Home of Nations, affiliated to Isfahan Municipality.

Freelance writer, university lecturer, art researcher and expert in conservation and restoration of cultural monuments Hamid Farahmand-Boroujeni has written the book “A Tour in the Garden of Rock Inscriptions: Figures and Writings on the Epitaphs of Takht-e Foulad,” Mehr News Agency reported.

“Takht-e Foulad is among famous cemeteries in the Islamic World, where renowned figures of science and culture are laid to rest. The epitaphs of the graveyard are artistically unique with special characteristics,” Farahmand-Boroujeni said.

Since 1994, a number of gravestones in the cemetery have been repaired and restored by Takht-e Foulad Cultural and Religious Complex. However the stones are mostly exposed to the sun, wind, rain and other eroding factors and Farahmand-Boroujeni is not satisfied with their conservation status. “By studying them and keeping their records in a book, cultural heritage can be saved from destruction and oblivion,” he says.

One of the graves in the cemetery belongs to painter, literary scholar, poet and pen-case maker Mirza Mohammad-Baqer Dehnavi (1283-1352), known as “Naqash-Bashi” (master painter), who was among the most celebrated visual artists during the late Qajar era (1786-1925).

“Despite his artistic influence, no comprehensive research has been conducted about him yet,” Farahmand-Boroujeni rued.
