Sarv Cultural House in Tehran hosted a program on old songs and ballads composed during the 1930s to 1970s in Tehran on Tuesday. The program was attended by music researchers and experts. A documentary about old songs was shown and a book titled “Songs and Ballades of Old Tehran” by musician and researcher of ethnic musicology Sasan Fatemi was unveiled, IRNA reported. A wide range of styles in songs and popular ballads is covered in the book including those sung in Zoorkhaneh (traditional gym) and traditional comedy plays (ru-hozi) as well as traditional storytelling (Morshed Khani) among others. The popular songs reached their peak in the 1950s and consisted largely of cheerful melodies.
