Shafaq Cultural Center in Tehran is to hold a ceremony to commemorate celebrated Iranian writer Jalal Al-e Ahmad (1923-1969) on his 49th death anniversary.

Al-e Ahmad is one of the distinguished contemporary authors in Iran who published many novels, short stories, critical essays and travelogues. He is mostly known in Iran for his novels “The School Principal” and “Westoxification” which have also been translated into English.

The ceremony, slated for September 9, will also pay tribute to the celebrated novelist, writer and translator Simin Daneshvar (1921-2012), Al-e Ahmad’s wife, ISNA reported.

Daneshvar wrote fiction as well as essays on aesthetics and classical Persian literature from the early 1950s. “Savushun” her most notable work has sold over half a million copies in Iran and has been translated in 16 languages including German, Chinese Russian and Italian.

Scholars including Persian literature professor Ahmad Abu-Mahboub, writer and translator Gholamreza Emami, and art and literature researcher Simin Panahifard will speak at the meeting.

The cultural center is located at Shafaq Park, 21st Street, Asadabadi Street.
