Two Iranian films won three prizes at the 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) in Taipei, Taiwan, August 29-September 2.
“Appendix” directed by Hossein Namazi won the best actor award for Amir Ali Danaei and jury’s special mention for Namazi’s innovation and creativity, while veteran actress Soraya Ghasemi received the best supporting actress award for her performance in the war drama “The Villa Complex Residents,” ISNA reported.
Appendix tells the story of a woman, Zari, who goes to hospital with her husband suffering from severe abdominal pain. However, using her friend’s health care card instead of her own expired card puts her into trouble with the hospital management.
The film won best screenplay award in the 41st Montreal World Film Festival.
The Villa Complex Residents, a war film by Monir Qeidi is the story of families of Iranian Army commanders during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war who live in a large country house. Ghasemi plays the role of a mother of a war commander awaiting the return of her son.
She won the same award for the film at the 35th Fajr Film Festival.
A total of 18 countries participated in the Asia-Pacific Film Festival this year. It is an annual film festival organized by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific. Founded in 1954 in Tokyo, each year the event takes place in a member country of the federation.
