Oudlajan historical neighborhood in south Tehran is like an old town per se. For those who can see history by looking at old bricks and buildings, Dabir-ol-Molk House is the place to visit.
Dabir-ol-Molk House is southwest of where the famous Amir Kabir Avenue and Rey Street meet. The mansion is accessible via Hanifinezhad Street.
It is a typical Qajar mansion in a not very big garden. The mansion is a symmetrical building whose iwan is connected to a courtyard with a plain double-sided staircase. There is also a pond in front of the mansion.
The house once belonged to Mirza Mohammad-Hossein Khan Farahani (1810-1880), a financial secretary to Qajar king Nasser al-Din Shah (1831-1896). Farahani was called Dabir-ol-Molk, meaning royal secretary.
A house with a terrace, a courtyard and a pond in the middle is an irresistible location for most filmmakers. Scriptwriter and film director Kianoush Ayari set Dabir-ol-Molk House as the main location of his TV series Rouzgar-e Gharib which was about Dr. Mohammad Gharib (1909-1975), a then pioneer of pediatrics in Iran.
