Abbas Akbari’s Ceramic Works at IAC Treasure Bowl Collection

International Academy of Ceramics, the only association active in the field of ceramic at the international level, will display its first Treasure Bowl Collection, which is a unique collection of contemporary ceramics made from 2016 to 2018 by ten artists from different countries, among which is Abbas Akbari from Iran.

Founded in 1952 in Geneva, IAC objective is to cultivate friendship and communication between professionals in the field of ceramics from all countries. IAC develops and encourages international cooperation to promote ceramics and encourage and maintain the highest level of quality production in all ceramic cultures, Aic-iac.org wrote.

Other artists participating in the project of Treasure Bowel Collection include Philippe Barde from Switzerland, Janet DeBoos (Australia), Wayne Higby (the US), Kyung Jo Roe (South Korea), Toshio Ohi Chozaemon XI (Japan), Gustavo Pérez (Mexico), Ann Van Hoey (Belgium), Wen Yeh (Taiwan) and Fiona Lai Ching Wong (Hong Kong).

Under the theme “Native Clay,” each artist’s collection includes 12 sets, each composed of 10 bowls signed by the creating artists who drew on history, tradition and cultural heritage as their inspiration.

Acquisition price of each collection starts at $18,425. A certificate attests the authenticity of all artworks, IAC reported on its website.

The vessels that Abbas Akbari has made are inspired by the technical and artistic background of earthenware in Iranian history and culture. He has tried to integrate some methods of making luster surfaces that are part of Iran’s ceramic history.

Akbari, an IAC member since 2015, received his Ph.D. in art research from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran. He is a member of the Faculty of Architecture and Art at the University of Kashan. His works are held in various collections in Iran, Switzerland, France, Argentine, Turkey, Nepal, Dominican, Croatia and Spain. Akbari has also published several books and articles, Honaronline wrote.

The public viewing of the Treasure Bowl Collection will be held in September at the Yingge Ceramics Museum, in New Taipei City, in the context of the IAC 2018 Congress.
