4 Feature Films in Bulgaria Love Film Festival

Four feature films have attended the 26th Love is Folly International Film Festival in Varna, Bulgaria, August 24-September 2.

The drama “Appendix” (2017) directed by Hussein Namazi is the only Iranian film in the competition section. It is vying for the top award with 11 films from Belgium, the UK, Germany, France and Russia, ISNA reported.

It tells the story of a woman, Zari, who goes to hospital with her husband suffering from severe abdominal pain. However, using her friend’s health care card instead of her own expired card puts her into trouble with the hospital staff.

Anahita Ne’mati, Amirali Danaei, Pardis Manouchehri and Reza Akbarpour act in the film that will be shown on August 29.

The other three films are participating in the non-competition section of the festival. 

“Motherhood” (2017), directed by Roqiyeh Tavakoli, is about Nava, who tries to convince her sister to go back to her estranged husband, while her own fiancé is cheating on her.

The cast includes Nazanin Bayati, Maryam Boubani, Hanieh Tavassoli, Melisa Zakeri and Houman Seyedi.

War drama “The Villa Complex Residents” by Monir Qeidi is the story of families of Iranian Army commanders during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war who live in a large country house.

“Leaf of life” (2017) by writer and director Ebrahim Mokhtari is about a documentary filmmaker who wants to make a film about saffron in Iran. 

The movie starring Saeed Poursamimi, Mehdi Ahmadi and Maryam Moghaddam recently won the INALCO Prix at the 24th edition of Vesoul Festival of Asian Cinema in Vesoul, eastern France and its director won the best film award at the 1st Asian Art Week on Tourism and Film in Taizhou, China.

According to the festival website Loveisfolly.com, the international festival was founded in 1993. It shows films dealing with the subject of love.
