First Free Concert at Ab-o-Atash Park

The first gratis public concert in Tehran will be performed by the Iran National Instruments Orchestra at Ab-o-Atash (Water and Fire) Park.

Slated for August 30-31, the concert marks the occasion of Ghadir-Khumm festivity celebrated by Shia Muslims on August 30. The celebration commemorates an event that took place in March 632, when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) invited believers and told them to pledge allegiance to Imam Ali (AS), the first Shia Imam and the son-in-law of the founder of the religion. Iran National Instruments Orchestra will be conducted by Ali Akbar Qorbani, a member of the National Orchestra’s technical council. Traditional compositions will be performed and traditional vocalist Mohammad Motamedi will accompany with his voice, ILNA reported.Repertoire of the concerts include “Bahar-e Delkash” (the enchanting spring) composed by traditional composer and tar player Gholam-Hossein Darvish (1872-1926) aka Darvish Khan; “Shekayat-e Del” (heart’s complaint) by composer and violinist Parviz Yahaqqi (1936-2007); and “Bahar-e Man” (my spring) by composer, violinist and songwriter Ali Tajvidi (1919-2006). Ab-o-Atash Park is located off Haqqani Expressway, east of Vanak Square.
