Tehran International Electronic Music Festival is slated for September 1-8.

Electronic music employs electronic musical instruments, digital instruments and circuitry-based music technology. The festival opens at Da Theater Hall and will conclude in Tehran University, ISNA reported.

Organized under the auspices of the university’s Music Department and Yarava music group, this will be the second edition of the festival. The first was held in early March at Charsou Cineplex in downtown Tehran.

Yarava group is an experimental, contemporary orchestra active since 2004. Its founders are pianist, tar, setar, daf, tonbak and tanbur player and conductor Mehdi Jalali; tar and setar player Ebrahim Allahyari; and setar player Hamed Zand-Karimkhani.

The second edition of the festival incorporates the 3rd Korourian Electro-Acoustic Music Composition Competition Award that has hitherto been held separately. Korourian competition seeks to identify, appreciate and introduce new and significant pieces of electro-acoustic music. It is an annual event held in memory of Iranian composer, flutist, guitarist, pianist and music theoretician Reza Korourian (1971-2015) who made prized contributions to electronic music.

Electronic concerts, seminars and lectures, video arts, composition workshops and performance arts are among the programs of Tehran International Electronic Music Festival.

Over 50 compositions by 50 electronic composers from Iran, Germany, Italy, Uruguay, Japan, Estonia, Russia and the Philippines will perform at the festival.
