An inclination towards collecting old furniture, crockery and decorative items used by people in the past has grown among Iranians over the past few years. The tendency might be for the positive feelings and solace these objects create.
This growing interest has spurred a growth in the number of cafes, restaurants and hotels decorated in a way that resemble the atmosphere of the grandparents’ homes that have a typical Iranian architecture; houses with brick walls, a painted blue rectangular or circular pond in the middle of the yard decked with red geraniums pots.
Paintings by Vida Jeylanchi on show at CAMA Art Gallery is the artist’s response to her own questions regarding what places in modern Iran can really convey much-needed solace and peace of mind.
Dubbed “Contemporary Solace”, the exhibit features 12 works, made from acrylic and oil, all depicting peaceful moments in cafés, Honaronline wrote.
“Working on my previous collection, inspired by old structures, particularly buildings in arid areas, I wondered why people have developed a nostalgic feeling towards the life style and decors of the past, and where we seek this comfort and peace in modern world,” Jeylanchi said, adding that her cafes are associated with color, music and peace.
She says she always cares about feelings and emotions and in her current and previous collections has tried to paint human feelings and the good vibes spread in their surroundings by using special colors, lines and light.
Contemporary Solace is to continue till September 4. CAMA Art Gallery is located at No. 24, 10th Golestan Alley, Pasdaran Street.
