The tragedy of Hamlet by British poet and playwright William Shakespeare is on stage at Mehregan Theater House until September 21.

Directed by actor and director Mikaeel Shahrestani, the play narrates the story of the prince of Denmark, who has returned home to Elsinore Castle to mourn his father’s death while his uncle Claudius has become the king and married his mother.

One night the spirit of his father appears warning  Hamlet of a plot by Claudius to murder him  and asks for revenge.  

The cast includes Mohammad Ali Sadeqi, Mohammad Soleimani, Ayda Jahandideh, Shima Zadpour, Mahan Zare’, Elham Qasemi and Mansour Rezaee, Tiwall reported.

Hamlet, written between 1599 and 1602, was first performed in 1609 and since then has often been on stage and adapted in motion pictures.

Shakespeare’s famous tragedy is almost a permanent feature and one of the popular plays performed by theater groups in Iran.
