Panora Shopping Mall in Ankara is showing a selection of Persian rugs and tableau rugs. The event opened on August 11 for nine days and is displaying 24 rugs featuring landscapes, life of  nomads, social life in Iran and flowers. Among the works are costly hand-woven silk carpets from Qom Province and Bakhtiari kilims, IRNA reported. A rug tableau is an ornamental rug especially for hanging on walls for decoration. The designs and samples used in pictorial carpets are completely different from those on common floor rugs. Silk is the main material of fine quality pictorial rugs, but wool is also used. Tableau rugs are usually framed. Iranians have woven Persian pictorial rugs in the same way as the world famous Persian rugs over the past 2500 years.  Picture carpets normally show historical Persian legends or customs, beautiful landscapes, a basket full of flowers and Persian miniature.
