Kiani Coming to Music Museum

Tehran Museum of Music will hold two improvised concerts by musician and researcher Majid Kiani.

At the events slated for August 30-31, Kiani, 76, will play santur, Honaronline reported.  

Also a traditional music instructor, Kiani was tutored by masters namely Abdollah Davami, Abolhasan Saba and Dariush Safvat. In 2015 he released the book “Seven Dastgahs of Iranian Music”. Dastgah is musical modal system in traditional Iranian music.

Musical improvisation (also known as musical extemporization) is the creative activity of immediate “on the moment” musical composition, which combines performance with communication of emotions and instrumental technique as well as spontaneous response to other musicians. Sometimes musical ideas in improvisation are spontaneous, but may be based on chord changes in classical music and other kinds of music.
