Meem Theater Group from Afghanistan is slated to perform an adult puppet show at the 17th Mobarak International Puppet Theater Festival in Tehran, August 23-29.

Afghan writer and director Mohammad Ayreek will present “The Black Hair and Jalali” alongside five other foreign plays from France, Croatia, Taiwan and the Netherlands, ILNA reported on its Persian website.

The Black Hair and Jalali is a love story based on an Afghan folk song of the same name. In the story Jalali is a young man who one night dreams about a young girl named Black Hair calling him. After he wakes up, Jalali finds the girl’s family and asks for her hand in marriage but her parents do not accept his proposal.

The one hour play is suitable for adults.

The other foreign puppet shows to participate in the annual festival this year include “The Small Theater From the End of the World” directed by Ezéquiel Garcia-Romeu and “A King Without an Answer” by Jean-Baptiste Puech from France, “Wanda LaVanda” by Croatian director Morana Dolenc, “Exuvia” by Charlotte Puijk-Joolen from the Netherlands, and “Journey to the West: Mayhem in the Crystal Palace” by Yung-Chih Lin from Taiwan.
