The 26th edition of the annual “100 Works, 100 Artists” exhibition and sale at Golestan Art Gallery in Tehran generated 1.7 billion rials ($17,500) on Friday.
According to the Persian website Honaronline, on the opening day 34 works were sold; and a 30x30cm painting by renowned Iranian painter and calligrapher Faramarz Pilaram (1937-1982) was sold for 400 million rials ($4,000).
However, majority of the works sold belonged to young artists. With three of her works purchased by art enthusiasts, young artist Monir Qanbari was the biggest seller on the first day. Two sculptures by Keyvan Beiranvand and Amir Hessari were among the works purchased.
Prices of artworks start from 3 million rials ($30).
The most expensive work on offer is a painting by renowned painter and sculptor Bahman Mohasses (1931-2010) tagged at 850 million rials ($8,500). A lithograph priced at $5,500 is another work of the contemporary artist on show.
The major exhibit-cum-sale “100 Works, 100 Artists” is one of the oldest visual art events in the country, offering works in a variety of art mediums. This year it presents paintings, calligraphy works, print arts and sculptures by 182 renowned and emerging artists from across the country.
It is scheduled to run through August 21. The gallery is located at No. 34, Kamsaei Street, Darrus neighborhood, Dowlat Street.
