Veteran theater director Ali Pouyan intends to restage his successful adaptation of the play “Galileo,” the masterpiece of German playwright and theater director Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956).

Pouyan first staged the play for a month last year at Iranshahr Theater House in Tehran which was well received. Now he plans to perform it at City Theater, Tnews.ir wrote.

The play is based on the real life of 17th century astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei (1564-1642). Knowledge versus ignorance is the essence of his work.

It explores a scientist’s social and ethical responsibility, as the brilliant Galileo must choose between his life and his work when confronted with the demands of the Inquisition.

Through the dramatic characterization of the famous physicist, Brecht examines the issues of scientific morality and the difficult relationship between the intellectual and authority.

Amir-Yal Arjmand, Jacqueline Avareh and Benyamin Bakhshizadeh are in the cast.
