Films from Iran are to be screened in Tokyo during a three-day program on August 8-10. The show is part of a bilateral program to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Iran-Japan relations.

At the Iranian Film Festival in Tokyo five feature films, a documentary and one animation from Iranian filmmakers will be shown, IRNA reported on its Persian website.

Movies include Bodyguard (2016) directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia, Where Are My Shoes? (2016) by Kiumars Pourahmad, Mermaid (2016) by Masoud Aqababaian, Season of Narges (2017) by Negar Azarbayjani, and Delbari (2017) by Seyed Jalal Ashkzari.

The animated film Mobarak (2015) by Mohammad-Reza Najafi-Emami, and The Eastern (2018) a documentary on life of Japanese philosopher and Qur’an researcher Toshihiko Izutsu, by Masoud Taheri will also be screened.

The program is organized by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Tokyo Municipality.

Cultural officials from two countries signed a memorandum of understanding in 2016 that included   willingness on both sides to strengthen cultural cooperation in culture and art fields, namely film industry, theater, visual arts, calligraphy and relevant exhibitions.
